Charcoal and white pastel on tanned paper, approx. 11.8 x 15.7 in / 30 x 40 cm (DIN A3)
In this piece, I capture the menacing tranquility of a crocodile almost entirely merged with the water's surface. I chose a frontal perspective to place the viewer directly in the predator's line of sight. By using white pastel on the tanned paper ground, I make the rough, almost stone-like texture of the scaled armor and the prominent bony ridges tactually palpable. I set the cool white in sharp contrast to the deep black charcoal shadows in the water, giving the gentle ripples and light reflections on the surface an almost hypnotic quality. It was important to me to create the sensation of a lurking moment, where the weight of the massive body beneath the surface is only hinted at by the edges of light I precisely placed above.

In dieser Arbeit fange ich die bedrohliche Ruhe eines Krokodils ein, das fast vollständig mit der Wasseroberfläche verschmilzt. Ich habe eine frontale Perspektive gewählt, um den Betrachter direkt in die Schusslinie des Raubtieres zu rücken. Durch den Einsatz von weißem Pastell auf dem getönten Papiergrund mache ich die raue, fast steinartige Textur der Schuppenpanzerung und der markanten Knochenkämme haptisch erfahrbar. Das kühle Weiß setze ich in scharfen Kontrast zu den tiefschwarzen Kohleschatten im Wasser, wodurch die sanften Kräuselungen und Lichtreflexe der Oberfläche eine beinahe hypnotische Qualität erhalten. Es war mir wichtig, das Gefühl eines lauernden Augenblicks zu schaffen, in dem die Schwere des massiven Körpers unter Wasser nur durch die von mir präzise gesetzten Lichtkanten an der Oberfläche erahnt werden kann.
